This story Biden told last night about seeing two men kiss on the street—in what would have been the late 1950s—seemed a bit odd to me, so I looked it up.
Turns out Biden has been telling this story for several years, including in a 2017 book.
But in the earliest reference to it I can find, from a 2014 interview with a Times reporter, it's not him asking his dad about two men kissing in the fifties, but his own son asking him, presumably in the mid-to-late 1970s.
Obviously there are a zillion search terms one could use for this, and I only did a quick Google News search, so I'm not sure this is the first version of the story. But it's interesting.
(Here's the 2014 link. The more recent versions of the story are pretty much everywhere.) nytimes.com/2014/04/20/mag…
And I gotta say, the 2014 version of Biden's story, in which it's set in DC in the 1970s, strikes me as a lot easier to believe than the current version, in which it happens in Delaware in the 1950s.
