No joke: the U.N. Human Rights Council soon votes on a resolution on Venezuela's human rights record that was drafted by Venezuela itself—diplomat Félix Peña Ramos—and sponsored by Iran. The text praises the Maduro regime's efforts on human rights, and instead attacks the West.
#Iran is officially listed as the main sponsor of the resolution...
...but if you dig deeper into the document properties, you'll see that the author of the draft ("Strengthening cooperation and technical assistance in the field of human rights in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela") is one other than Venezuela's own official, Félix Peña Ramos.
Oddly for a human rights resolution, it has 3 paragraphs demanding "non-interference in the internal affairs" of the Maduro regime & complaining about Western sanctions on regime officials as "unilateral coercive measures," citing foolish statements in this regard by @mbachelet.
@mbachelet Oddly for a human rights resolution, the UNHRC draft is replete with praise for the brutal Maduro regime: "Recognizing the political disposition shown by Venezuela to cooperate..."; "Welcomes the efforts of Venezuela..."; "Welcomes the decision of the government Venezuela..."
@mbachelet @UNHumanRights Luckily, there is a rival text that is strong. Which one passes will be determined at the end of this week.
