The word 'generations' in phrase 'These are the generations of...' can be spelled 4 different ways in Hebrew, all with the same meaning:
Full: תולדות
Partly full: תולדת or תלדות
Short: תלדת.

The phrase 'these are the generations of...' occurs with full spelling only 2ce in OT:
Gen 2:4 "These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created"

and

Ruth 4:18 "These are the generations of Perez; Perez fathered Hezron..."

The rabbis 'pinned' a rather beautiful piece of biblical theology to this otherwise incidental spelling fact:
The full spelling in Genesis points to the full perfection of the created order in its original state, before Adam's sin.
And
the full spelling in Ruth points forward to the full perfection of the created order when it is renewed by the Messiah Himself - descendent of Perez.
