The official threat level for terrorism in the UK has been LOWERED. It's gone down a notch from "Severe" to "Substantial". However, this is not as good news as it sounds. It still means that the secret body that assesses the risks thinks an attack is still "likely".
The new threat level is the LOWEST level of threat in five years. The previous level of "Severe" was an assessment by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre that an attack was "highly likely". JTAC's decision to lower the level comes from its assessment of all threats
(Threats basically means possible attacks from supporters of jihadist causes such as the Islamic State group, the far-right and NI paramilitary groups.)

Re wide reporting of package in MPs offices today: There used to be a generally-observed unwritten rule observed across the media that we **didn't** report suspicious packages until they were known to be definitely suspicious unless disruption was really significant.

Why such a rule? Simple. Hoaxes and false alarms are generally not a story. And they may lead to more false alarms, hoaxes & fear. So we'd end up scaring the audience & may encourage more fear, more false alarms & more would-be hoaxers...

This won't get much notice amid the Election hullabaloo but MPs on Foreign Affairs Committee stuck the boot into what they call the government's "flawed" master plan to stop illegal migration & say it only leads to more people smuggling and misery: bbc.co.uk/news/uk-502834…
Four significant points raised by MPs. 1) Strategy to combat smuggling relies on international co-operation, but UK Govt has seemingly stopped attending the EU meetings where continent-wide plans to target irregular/illegal migration are discussed.
2) Nobody knows - not even ministers and their top officials - if the UK will still be part of the European Migrant Smuggling Centre after Brexit. This is dedicated to gathering intelligence to catch the gangs.

This is someone who brought down the last two governments of his own party, just because he wanted to be prime minister.
And now he wants to partition the country itself, just so he can be prime minister.

It's the greed of a child, and anyone should be ashamed who had anything to do with his upbringing, that he would destroy the country to satisfy his personal greed.
Not only is Boris Johnson unfit to be prime minister, he's unfit to be seen. It's like he was never brought up at all, but he has retained the lifelong habits of a baby. Greed and grab.

Court returns. O’Neill rises to continue the case for the petitioners, that action should be taken to ensure Boris Johnson abides by the law passed by Parliament on Brexit.
O’Neill submits transcript of the Andrew Marr show, various interviews, & BJ’s Tory conference speech all asserting that UK will leave the EU on 31 Oct irrespective of the law passed by Parliament. This, he says, demonstrates his willingness to break the law.

While waiting for flight I thought I'd investigate the observation by @JohnJCrace and others that many Leavers who insisted #parliament prorogation was nowt to do with Brexit then decried yesterday's Supreme Court ruling to quash it as an attack against Brexit & democracy itself
Turns out there are hundreds of Twitter accounts who enacted this turnaround, unearthed by a simple search on the words "prorogued every year", as that's what they all said when Boris did it: "It happens every year don't it - as if it's got anything to do with Brexit this time!"
Let's start with @MarnieRiptide who once explained to @StevePeers & others that it's a yearly thing, specifically
for conferences/Queen's speech - "Do your research!"

But as of yesterday it was suddenly all about "postponing Brexit" and nothing else. What happened there Marny
