@NIH 6/n #NIHmosaic has two components: (1) a K99/R00 Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity, and (2) an Institutionally Focused Research Education Cooperative Agreement (UE5) to provide additional mentoring, networking, skills development and oversight

@NIH 7/n The #NIHmosaic K99/R00 Postdoctoral Career Transition Award aims to enhance the diversity of independent NIH investigators. Institutions are *strongly encouraged* to identify candidates who will enhance diversity on a national basis (see grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/n…)

@NIH 8/n The #NIHmosaic K99/R00 Postdoctoral Career Transition Award provides support for up to 2 yrs mentored postdoc training, & 3 yrs independent research support. Participating ICs: @NIGMS, @NIBIBgov & @NINR (potentially more). Contact program officers early to discuss your work.

@NIH @NIGMS @NIBIBgov @NINR 9/n To be eligible for the #NIHmosaic K99 award, you must have <4 years of postdoc experience, and be a US citizen/permanent resident. @NIH will consider extensions for life events - @NIGMS will provide 1 year extension for childbirth in the postdoc period.

@NIH @NIGMS @NIBIBgov @NINR 10/n Candidates for the #NIHmosaic K99 award are *strongly encouraged* to apply no later than the third year of their postdoctoral training and are always encouraged to consult with NIH staff early in the application process.

@NIH @NIGMS @NIBIBgov @NINR 11/n There are some notable differences between the #NIHmosaic K99 and the parent K99. Be sure to address application specific information on the candidate, mentor and institutional environment.

@NIH @NIGMS @NIBIBgov @NINR 12/n The #NIHmosaic application requires a candidate eligibility statement as well as diversity statement. Be sure to include or your application won’t be reviewed.

@NIH @NIGMS @NIBIBgov @NINR 17/n The #NIHmosaic UE5 program will equip MOSAIC K99/R00 scholars w/professional skills &provide them with the mentoring and professional networks to facilitate their transition into and success in independent academic research careers at research-intensive institutions.

@NIH @NIGMS @NIBIBgov @NINR 18/n #NIHmosaic UE5 grantees will develop cohorts of MOSAIC scholars, enhance their professional networks, and organize meetings of appropriate institutional leaders to enhance diversity & mentoring.

@NIH @NIGMS @NIBIBgov @NINR 19/n #NIHmosaic UE5 applicants must develop specific and measurable objectives for the scholars. Proposed activities should address the career needs of scholars in both K99 & R00 phases and must build upon the strengths and assets of scholars.

@NIH @NIGMS @NIBIBgov @NINR 20/n #NIHmosaic UE5 awards are intended for independent organizations like scientific societies. Institutions of higher education are not eligible to apply. PIs should be full-time employees of the applicant organization – academic faculty can contribute as co-investigators.

@NIH @NIGMS @NIBIBgov @NINR 21/n #NIHmosaic K99 awardees are the primary participants. Applications can propose expanding the participants to other individuals who advance the goals of the MOSAIC program.

@NIH @NIGMS @NIBIBgov @NINR 22/n Be sure to consult the FOA for required components of the #NIHmosaic UE5 application (e.g., required components of the research strategy, advisory committee and letter of organizational commitment).

@NIH @NIGMS @NIBIBgov @NINR 23/n See information in the FOA about the UE5 award and peer review. Note the UE5 is a cooperative agreement and there will be substantial involvement from NIH after the award is made.

@NIH @NIGMS @NIBIBgov @NINR 24/n The first due date for the #NIHmosaic UE5 award is November 15, 2019. NIH will rescind the 2020 due date if a sufficient number of competitive applications are received in 2019.
