2/ In fairness, the piece itself isn’t all bad. If you read to the bottom of the very lengthy piece you learn there’s no evidence of wrongdoing on Hunter Biden’s part and if anything getting the crooked prosecutor fired probably increased the chance of scrutiny on the company.

For clarity, what Trump is referring to is May 2018 letter Dem Sens wrote to Ukrainian prosecutor in response to press reports that Ukraine had discontinued cooperation with Mueller probe investigators in response to White House pressure. cnn.com/2018/05/04/pol…
2/ Notably @marcthiessen seemingly got this canard from the White House so quickly that he didn't notice that it was in 2018 not 2019. Here's his column from yesterday which simply says it was from "May".
3/ In other words, Trump and Marc don’t understand the difference between a lawful investigation overseen by an acting attorney general and criminal extortion. Which means that I’m now saying things that are obvious and should probably conclude this thread.

3/ Yanukovych was overthrown. If anything canning the prosecutor in question was going to mean more investigations not fewer. Josh worked at a journo in Ukraine before coming to @TPM so he has great insight on this. Give this episode a listen.

A few words on Kurt Volker, who appears to be the State Department contact that Giuliani keeps telling us is in his iPhone.
He is a highly respected former G.W. Bush administration official. He is a Republican from the neocon tradition with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe; in the 90s he worked for Richard Holbrooke during the Bosnia negotiations and for John McCain as a foreign policy aide.
In 2015-16, he worked for the Jeb Bush campaign before it collapsed, then sat out the rest of election. He declined to sign the Never Trump letters circulating in summer-fall 2016 because he thought Trump might in the end need some foreign policy professionals.

1/ After Rep. Nadler (D-NY) summarized the report in a few sentences, Rep. Collins (R-GA) deliberately and repeatedly mischaracterized its findings and concluded by saying falsely, "These are the facts of the report." They weren't—and he knew they weren't. A bad sign for the GOP.
2/ Mueller begins by saying he decided early on that he had to move expeditiously as well as fairly. He is already beginning his defense of closing up his office (in the view of many) "early" given still-open cases and subpoenas for testimony and documents that remain unanswered.
