The image of Martin Scorsese and George Romero basically doing a tug-of-war over the only existing print of TALES OF HOFFMANN - is so pleasing to me. "Hey George you done with it yet?" "No." "When will you be done with it?" "I don't know." They were both obsessed.
also: her revelation in re: Robert Helpmann's eyes in Tales of Hoffman and De Niro's eyes in the rear view mirror in Taxi Driver: it's practically a direct homage on MS' part.

Lengthy in-depth interview with Bobby Beausoleil. I always thought Gary Hinman/BB was key to the whole "mystery" - or one of the keys, along with the Terry Melcher factor. Very interesting. rollingstone.com/culture/cultur…
I'm not saying I'm SURE. I'm just saying that that explanation made more sense to me than "Helter Skelter." Because it's a PETTY explanation. And that fits. YMMV.

Coming up on the anniversary of me going crazy. Or, one of the times. The Big One. 15 on the Richter scale. Which reminds me of a story. Member Window Boy?
He is difficult to explain or describe which is why I have written about him so much. Anyway, our entire saga happened before I got diagnosed although - looking back - he clearly walked me through a couple "episodes." Without knowing what he was doing or what "it" was.
We met in our 20s. We were babies.

But there, under the willow tree, a creature huddles.

It must be part of His plan, Margarita thinks, as are all things. She pays it no mind.

But time and time again, she passes the great willow and sees the creature huddling there.

More strange: nobody seems to see it but her.
She passes the creature time and time again until she cannot simply pass it anymore.

She is an agent of Good, after all, and the creature is quivering, like it is cold, perhaps, or afraid.

So she goes to it.

i went to meet one of my best friends. she's recently started dating this dude

I’ve been meaning to talk about Americans and our sadistic relationship to war & masochistic relationship to capitalistic exploitation & why, like everything, it’s mostly down to history & geography, for a long time.

That time is now. Patience, if you will.
It’s no secret that Americans love war. At least, a large number of us do. We love it because it makes jobs & cool music & neat images on the nightly news, but more importantly, we love it because it always happens Somewhere Else. We can tune in, but we never have to tough it out
US military is entirely volunteer & since Vietnam, the draft has been off the table as a viable political tool. The highest price most Americans pay for war is at the gas pump, which lets us view conflict as, more or less, a movie we buy tickets to but, you know, not in 3D.
