✨🎃 October 2019 Horror Movie A Day Thread #31DaysOfHalloween 🎃✨
1. READY OR NOT (2019) - good, wholesome, bloody fun for anyone that likes a healthy dose of goof in with their horror. Big fan of the whole thing being one big long set up for an in law joke and also rate the innovative use of ...holes. You'll know what I mean 🔩
2. BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON (2006) - Big bad Leslie breaking down horror movie symbolism to manufacture his own final girl is absolutely *chef's kiss*. Stylistically super intriguing. If you like CREEP, this is one for you 🎥
3. THE VOID (2016) - Carpenter and Lovecraft's bastard child birthed through absolutely banging practical effects. The plot isn't the strongest, but with so much cult goodness (both literal and figurative), it doesn't matter. Just look at this!!! The visuals!! My heart! 🦑
4. AUDITION (1999) - All my nightmares continue to be soundtracked with "kiri kiri kiri kiri kiri", good, thank you 💉
5. CREEPSHOW (1982) - Horror anthologies are completely My Shit, and one written by Stephen King, directed by George A. Romero, and that homages classic EC Comics is about as good as it gets. Don't bite your nails, kids 📦
6. GET OUT (2017) - Man, what a rewatch. Wields squirmy awkward feelings in incredible (and absolutely necessary) fashion, is a masterclass in tension and originality, and still remains the most important horror movie in freakin years. I! Love! Jordan! Peele! ☕
7. POLAROID (2019ish) - Considering this had been floating unreleased for 2 years before finally getting coughed out onto Prime, it could have been somewhat worse. It also should have been far, far better. Cool ideas distorted by very average execution 📸
8. ONE CUT OF THE DEAD (2017) - I have not belly laughed at a movie like this in... Ever. Really clever concept executed one cut (oioi) above the rest of its kind, and comes as a twofer package deal!! Absolutely deserving of the hype human pyramid it's built, big recc from me 🤮
9. GRAVE ENCOUNTERS (2011) - Reminiscent of The Blair Witch Project (or more closely Blair Witch), just set in a big old creepy building rather than the woods. Great atmosphere, if fairly cliche. Needs to commit to going fully weird as the ground work is definitely there 👅
10. EVENT HORIZON (1997) - Can't believe the best parts of this movie were lost in a salt mine and we still get all this ridiculous spooky goodness. More interdimensional space hell please. This is gruesome sci-fi horror at its finest, in my humble opinion 🚀
11. SUSPIRIA (2018) - The 1977 film still reigns supreme for its technicolour nightmares and jangling soundtrack, but this is... a whole new beast. Creates its own intense, disturbing, physically exhausting experience, and god knows we need more films ft. witchcraft ✨
