1. It's clear that Pompeo, Giuliani, Barr and others will do everything possible to obstruct the House's impeachment inquiry

But the House doesn't have to take it laying down.

It has the power to fight back

2. Up until this point, the House has responded to obstruction by filing lawsuits

These cases may eventually be successful but they're VERY SLOW

It's effectively a victory for Trump who is just trying to run the clock to 2020

3. The House can invoke its INHERENT CONTEMPT power

Under INHERENT CONTEMPT, the House can "unilaterally arrest and detain an individual found to be 'obstruct[ing] the performance of the duties of the legislature.'"

4. The INHERENT CONTEMPT power of the House (and Senate) is not a fantasy. It has been repeatedly affirmed by the Supreme Court.

But the level of obstruction from Trump and his allies is also unprecedented.

The owners of the company were arrested Wednesday at the airport with one-way tickets to Vienna

Giuliani was scheduled to fly there the next day
The owners of "Fraud Guarantee," Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, ALSO WORKED ON BEHALF OF PRESIDENT TRUMP.

How do we know?

Their attorney, John Dowd (who used to work for Trump at the White House) told Congress last week
Putting together the pieces: there is evidence that Trump, Giuliani, Parnas, and Fruman were collaborating on an illegal scheme to pressure the Ukrainian gov't to help Trump's reelection

I'm a Latino parent—I fear my child will be discriminated against worse than I was
I'm the survivor of an in-person death threat against me & my family, from a MAGA extremist who hated me just for who I am—I fear him or another carrying out those threats.

It's time I had my say about #Impeachment, DJT's obstructionistic tactics, and @SpeakerPelosi's not pushing for an inquiry yet.

When AG Barr released the redacted version of the report to Congress, he did *not* include any of the underlying documents on which Mueller relied.

Just like a lawsuit, a case has to be built based on facts and evidence. Both the Intelligence Committee and the Judiciary Committee have been working their way through the system, including voting to hold AG Barr in Contempt of Congress. DJT has been fighting them in court.

2/
Meanwhile, the Ways and Means Committee has also been working on getting DJT's tax returns. One of the Committees has also been working on getting records subpoenaed from DJT's financial management firm and from Deutche Bank, known for Russian money laundering.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.

Typically "no contact" is often the only way to avoid their toxicity, but as anyone who shares custody of a child with a Cluster B disordered parent knows, that's not realistic. 1/
