1/ Look, Jagmeet Singh has been SEVERELY overlooked this election so I appreciate whenever he gets coverage. HOWEVER, the emphasis on his "classy", "dignified" reaction to today's events that makes you "proud to be Canadian" is b*llshit. The comment made to him was RACIST AF.

2/ He shouldn't have to respond in a classy manner–it was racism! But, if the Trudeau "scandal" showed us anything it's that mainstream media is not equipped to discuss racism and, in fact, will likely side with the oppressor not the oppressed.

3/ So what could Singh have done, really? Even the faintest gesture toward the harm that racism causes (a twitch of the eye, a raised voice, or heaven forbid a clap back) & Jagmeet's abilities would have been called into question by racist reporters. I mean, just 2 weeks ago, ...

4/ ...reporters asked if Canada was ready for a leader w/ a turban! WTF?! Rather than zeroing in on Jagmeet's class & decency–things we would already know if he was receiving fair coverage–let's ALSO condemn racism...since that didn't really happen last week (or ever) in MSM.

5/ Lastly, let's not make this about some quintessential Canadianness because 1) it doesn't exist; and 2) investment in the idea of it is actually super harmful. Y(our) "Canadianness" is predicated on arbitrary borders and says that some deserve basic rights while others don't.

5/ It's the same settler colonial Canadianness that perpetuate(s)(d) the genocide of Indigenous peoples; the same one tht extracts resources all over the world; the same one w/ a PM who wore blackface or, as he calls it, "make up."

Jagmeet is classy. Today was racist. The end.
