Should be wary of drawing too firm a link to impeachment given long-term trend is Biden falling and Warren rising. But early signs about the impact of Trump’s Ukraine attacks aren’t good for his campaign.

Kasich says 'there are lines which simply cannot be crossed'. Says he has consulted his conscience. Predicts he will take 'heat' for going public with his view.
Kasich says he was reluctant to make decision. Predicts people will be "angry". But says you have to "look at yourself" and ask what is expected from a president.

So there was a quid pro quo. Mick Mulvaney, Trump's chief of staff, says aid to Ukraine WAS held back to get investigations into corruption. [Just not into the Bidens].
Mulvaney said aid was held back for three reasons
1) To ensure corruption was tackled
2) Because allies weren't paying enough
3) Get co-operation on probe into what happened in 2016

Key bits of the opening testimony from Trump's EU ambassador [Sondland] to the impeachment inquiry...

1/ Trump told us to work with Giuliani on Ukraine. Means policy effectively out-sourced to a private citizen.
2/ Admission that Giuliani might have been trying to get Ukraine involved in Trump's 2020 re-election campaign. [Said explicitly by Sondland].
3/ Strong criticism for holding back military aid to Ukraine. 'Should not have been delayed for any reason'. Confirmation that State figures disproved of Trump's order.

The most crucial point in Marcotte's exegesis is that #Biden has always stood up for right wing Catholics and evangelicals over women on repro rights and she outlines specific instances including as VP that are quite disturbing.

And it IS telling that the small percentage of pro-#Biden poll numbers among women are all post-menopausal age. Which is cringeworthy when you think about it. Choice has to be protected for all women and girls. So as Marcotte notes, the nominee must be all in for women.
