pada tahun ke 9 setelah Perang Jawa usai, lahirlah ia dng dinamai RM Murtejo
Sewaktu dilahirkan & tumbuh sbg bocah, agaknya tak ada yg berpikir, RM Murtejo bakal bertakhta sbg raja Yogyakarta bergelar Sultan Hamengkubuwana VII pd 1877.

Maklumlah RM Murtejo bukanlah langsung lahir sebagai anak raja.
Ia hanya anak dari adik raja.
Nama ayahnya: Pangeran Mangkubumi, putra ketiga Sultan Hamengkubuwana IV dr Permaisuri GKR Kencana.
Raja Jogja sewaktu RM Murtejo lahir adalah pamannya, Hamengkubuwana V.
Sewaktu RM Murtejo lahir, pamannya sang Sultan HB V masih berusia cukup muda, yaitu 29 th, masih punya banyak kemungkinan memiliki putra, meskipun sejauh itu istri2 sang sultan selalu saja melahirkan anak2 perempuan.
