As a nerd, I'm regularly triggered by Trump's tweet. Today it's trying to figure out what parts of the F-35's airframe would be made of steel. Because aircraft aren't made from steel, as everyone knows, it'd be too heavy.
So I found this page. It confirms the major materials of the F-35 airframe are aluminum, carbon fiber, and titanium. Steel isn't mentioned, though there's a few percentage points unaccounted for.
Steel might be used for the parts with the highest stress, like joints and landing gear. Though, titanium might also be used in such cases. As you can see in the chart above, the "Carrier Variant" has a lot more titanium than the other variants, due to much greater landing stress
