By the way, I think there's a good chance that things of relatively great importance will happen tomorrow. Not like the end of all this, but an escalation.

I'm going to be traveling for a family wedding. Leaving early. I anticipate possible complications.
So, uh... if I'm missing in action or my attention seems spotty, that's why. I'll follow the news as I can, given the priorities I set to make it through the day and subject to the vagaries of airplane Wi-Fi.
It's not that stuff happening in the world and in politics isn't important, it's that things like family and weddings are important, too.

Even in a crisis, life keeps happening right up until it doesn't.

I just saw a guy refer to Senator Warren's discrimination story as "a useful injustice" and
To elaborate, he was suggesting she could have gotten as much out of coming forward in 2007 as now.

Which, I mean, he's not wrong. He's not right, but he's not wrong. No advantage then, no advantage now.
The "advantage" of talking about it is that she has it out in the open and off her chance. The "gain" is that we are talking about pregnancy discrimination and a whole lot of people are apparently just learning it exists. The needle moves, slowly.

Doesn't help her campaign.

As the Republican handwringing over the Turkish offensive sanctioned by Trump continues -- if it continues -- expect the subtext to rapidly become text: "We wish we could hold him accountable, but Democrats have made that impossible with their relentless attacks."
Democrats are offering a path forward for removing Trump, one that can immediately become credible with GOP Senate support, but the GOP Senators are heading down the full-blown path of the guy who didn't *want* to be a Nazi but look what you made him do.
If this continues long enough and goes badly enough, I expect a GOP Senator to say, after the fact, "Maybe we could have impeached and removed him if the Democrats hadn't spent so much time trying to impeach and remove him."

Politely asked a gate agent about upgrades for a lengthy flight. While she looked, a woman tried to cut the line from the side to "just ask one question".

Upgrade wasn't available but the agent took her time to see what else she could do for us. Better seats for free.
I don't know that she *wouldn't* have done all that without the interruption but dang if basic bare minimum politeness (I was too tired to do my own customer service voice and manners) doesn't unlock a lot more than line jumping.
The "hey buddy, I just have one thing, take care of it, wouldja"s of the world think they are saving time and getting good deals but they rarely get anything more than what they ask for, even if they have the nerve to ask for a lot.

1. You may have noticed Mitch McConnell’s unforced error this week. He said the national debt, which has ballooned to levels unseen in six years, is not due to the GOP tax cuts. It’s due to “entitlements,” like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
2. Worse, he refused to take responsibility for something he and his party are entirely responsible for. “It’s not a Republican problem,” McConnell said. “It’s a bipartisan problem: unwillingness to address the real drivers of the debt." bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

1. Aaron Blake argued that the investigation into Trump’s Kremlin ties won’t end well, because nothing Robert Mueller discovers will satisfy anyone. Republicans will reject evidence pointing to criminal conspiracy while Democrats will reject evidence pointing to absolution.
2. Blake: For all the talk about Trump's actions triggering a constitutional crisis or even a war, the most likely crisis is the one that will arise from the political purgatory we'll find ourselves in once Mueller and other officials are finished investigating.
3. Blake’s assertion seemed underscored by an eye-popping poll released on the same day in which Republicans appeared to be willing to accept pretty much anything the president does, even if Russian espionage helped him win the presidency.

1. The first thing that should be said about Peter Strzok’s testimony Thursday before the House Judiciary Committee is that it occurred during the workday. For that reason most people didn’t watch it.
2. Most people, I’m guessing, heard about it second- or third-hand. They experienced a mediated version of the FBI agent’s dramatic testimony by way of mainstream media, social media or partisan media.
3. That’s too bad. Our republic would be healthier if more of us had opportunities to witness fiascoes like this. We saw two worlds collide, worlds that cannot be co-equals in a republic.
