In school yesterday, a case of pre eclampsia was reviewed( for those who do not know what this means, it’s simply one of the hypertensive disorders in pregnancy)
and the patient was subsequently booked for an emergency cesarean section and she was delivered of a live female and

Both the mother and baby are fine

We get to see a lot of deliveries both complicated and uncomplicated ones and we are always happy to hear that both the mother and baby are fine, what struck me today about this particular patient was the fact that this isn’t particularly a happy story.

The young lady who delivered yesterday was just 12 years old, she hadn’t even seen her first menses and since ovulation occurs before menstruation she probably ovulated and sadly her first ovulation got her pregnant at the tender age of 12.

To cut this long story short, she was raped by her neighbor several times till she finally got pregnant.

And after taking a brief history from her, it turned out that she was also raped several times by her pastor and also a traditional healer who stays in her community.

Now I’m sure you’ll be interested in knowing about her family. Her mum is late, she doesn’t know her father and she lives with her aunt. I really do not know the kind of supervision she gets from her caregivers...

but one thing I know is that they failed to protect her, they failed to shield her from the wickedness of this world, they failed to perform their duties as care givers and guardians of this young girl and as a result of this, she’s been scarred for life.

Imagine being a mother at 12, imagine a baby being another baby’s mother. This is so sad.

This is a call for help for this young girl for abused children have the tendency to be abused again and therefore if she isn’t rescued now, she’ll probably have 3 or more babies before she becomes an adult and that’s if she lives up to adulthood and survives the complications of

pregnancy as well as those of sexual abuse and every other difficulty which she would surely face.

She’s at risk of all the STI’s you can think of. Just think about anything negative, I’m almost certain she’s at risk of them all.

Let’s also include the little girl she delivered, she’s also at risk of everything her mother is at risk of.

It is in view of this that theMedicos Insigni (AAUMED’12) seeks your support, spread the word, there’s a 12yr old in Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua, Edo state that needs to be rescued.

Whoever this may get to, please help save this young mother and her baby and help give them a better future.
