A deeply depressing essay about Ronan Farrow's new book in which he exposes the rapacious culture of sexual harrassment and misconduct at NBC as he tried to research and report on accusations against Harvey Weinstein. It's chilling af. thecut.com/amp/2019/10/ro…
Rebecca Traister is one of our most uncompromising feminist writers, but as this piece ends, even she seems beaten down by the enormity of how these predatory men are in charge of literally everything. It's crushing as she reveals how much these men influenced 2016 for Trump.
Farrow's book is clearly a horror story--near the end of her essay Traister references Get Out and the systemic racism it revealed. Farrow's book is a reveal of how predatory heterosexual men are running our institutions and it leaves women vulnerable and voiceless.
As a gay man--safe from the sexual come-ons and rapey predation--Farrow is derailed and deflected at every turn. He is insulated financially due to his celebrity parent--yet still can't gain traction, so what of women attempting this work under more dangerous conditions? Awful.

Our oldest cat apparently had a stroke overnight, which The Wife just discovered. Our vet can't make space for her, so she's having to go to the emergency service at the veterinary school which is always mayhem. I didn't get to say goodbye to her or touch her and I am sobbing.
I rescued her--Maxine--14 yrs ago. She was badly injured. We were never able to find a forever placement for her(we ran a small cat shelter for years till my paralysis) as she was given to biting. (She was sent back twice.) So she was ours, biting and all. Very beautiful. Sad.
The Wife called from the veterinary ER. Maxine indeed had a massive stroke, so they are euthanizing her after The Wife spends some time saying goodbye. They gave her a shot of cat morphine so she is not suffering and The Wife is in a chair in the euthanasia room holding her.

It's difficult to imagine how the Nobel committee doesn't see that climate-based resource scarcity is in fact a source of armed conflict when fighting over water rights are escalating.

I'm not actually saying Thunberg should have won over Ahmed--I don't necessarily think that. (I actually thought Jacinda Ardern, who was short-listed, which Thunberg was not should have won.) I just think we have to recognize the role of climate change in conflict.

So this story is still bugging me.
It is 1963 in Wilmington, DE and it is broad daylight in the black side of town where Biden was a lifeguard and he saw two, one presumes black, men kissing and his Catholic dad says this?

Homophobia was rife in my Catholic school and it was much later than Biden's story and not Delaware.
In 1987 I got punched in the face in my neighborhood in Philadelphia as did my then partner when we kissed each other and it was night and we were walking home from the El.
2/
Biden told this story as an explanation for what he claims was his life-long approval of and support for gay people. But that is a really revisionist version since Biden voted for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

@BFMradio :: The letter is addressed to members of the media. Not to members of the public. Regardless of good intention, fwding the letter to those other than intended reader is to violate the writer’s agency. If you want to help, don't start by disregarding what the writer intends.
@BFMradio The writer is already aware of the high cost s/he may face for disclosing this. Exposing wrongful power practices - and sexual harassment is a form of wrongful practice of power - is always risky.
