Elizabeth Warren in 2011, talking about:

1. Taxing billionaires to give everyone else opportunities.

2. Endless wars.

3. Giveaways to giant, multinational corporations.

The only important thing that has changed is she's not wearing a black top with her cardigan.
Going to link this excellent thread by Tuxedo Mask here, because more people need to know Elizabeth Warren's history.

She hasn't just had a commitment to economic justice, but racial justice too.

And this important receipt by Rachel, who is the queen of Warren receipts and you should really follow.

Senator Warren gave that important speech on why black lives matters in 2015 when Secretary Clinton and Martin O'Malley, both running for president, got it wrong, and made the mistake of saying, "all lives matter", a phrase R's use to undermine BLM.

In 1975, Elizabeth Warren wrote a law review article forcefully arguing for busing, at a time when Joe Biden was against busing, and Senator Sanders was arguing that "busing policies are well meaning in theory, but sometime result in racial hostility".

In 2014 Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote his famous article, "The Case for Reparations" in The Atlantic.

He noted in an interview in May that Elizabeth Warren approached him after it came out, five years ago, not to ask for favors, but looking to learn.

Warren helped J.D. Scholten run against the racist Rep. Steve King of Iowa. Not mincing words in calling Steve King a white supremacist.

Scholten almost won, and now he's running again.

In 2014, Senator Warren introduced a bill to allow students to refinance their debt, to ease their burden.

This policy became a part of Senator Sanders 2016 election platform.

In 2015, Sen. Warren waged an internal war to get the Obama admin to forgive the student debt of students defrauded by the for-profit Corinthians Colleges.

The Treasury Dept refused to budge, but with an inside-outside strategy, she eventually won.

One of the first bills Sen. Warren introduced in her Senate career was on student debt, and she has always led on the issue.

In her 2020 campaign, she became the first candidate to propose outright student debt cancellation for most students who have it.
Postal Banking was an idea Sen. Warren introduced in 2014.

Now the idea has made it to many Democratic platforms include that of Bernie Sanders.

Sen. Warren also became the first Dem candidate to introduce a plan for a wealth tax, to tackle income inequality & fund her plans.

Bernie Sanders had considered an estate tax in 2014, but no one had proposed a plan for living, ultra-rich individuals.

Elizabeth Warren has a track record of consistently leading the fight against trade deals that contain provisions that end up harming American workers and American companies.

Her fight against provisions of the TPP in 2015 and 2016, for example.

And who would know better than Sen. Warren, in 2000 she was an expert witness on behalf of the US government when a foreign company sued the US for $725 million under the investor-state dispute settlement provisions of NAFTA.

Provisions she opposed being put in to TPP.
Sen. Warren also has a great history on voting for a peaceful foreign policy, as Peace Action's record of her voting history shows.

Even before entering politics, as a professor, Elizabeth Warren spent years warning about the risks that Wall Street was taking, predicting it would cause a recession and hurt millions of home owners.

She was one of the few that got it exactly right.

politifact.com/truth-o-meter/…
After the recession arrived, still a professor, she was installed head of the TARP oversight panel.

Despite having few powers, she used the role to subject the banks to withering scrutiny, so much so that the R's launched a political campaign against her

politico.com/story/2009/04/…
"Financial services lobbyists, who’ve long disliked Warren for highlighting predatory lending and abusive credit card fees, argue that she’s using her post to push her own, anti-industry agenda."
Despite being right about the recession, EW was ridiculed on Planet Money when she suggested that the underwater mortgages & foreclosure wave was a macroeconomic crisis, the host arguing no economists agreed with her.

She turned out to be exactly right.

That exchange between Elizabeth Warren and the host of Planet Money, Adam Davidson, inspired the thesis of Princeton University economist Atif Mian's book, House of Debt, about how economists can be misled by the financial press to not take a macro view.

“There aren’t that many people who can say they had an idea, wrote about it and ended up bringing it to fruition, in terms of the creation of a whole new government agency with a very focused mission" - David Axelrod

nytimes.com/2019/09/21/us/…
There aren't any other living Americans who came up with the idea for a government agency, fought for it (using a grassroots campaign), and then got to set it up.

She did such a good job setting it up, even her critics commend her for the job she did.
