The bible doesn't end with souls ascending to a disembodied heaven. It ends with a fully embodied heaven descending to earth.

The resurrection is the good news that God in Christ is committed to the renewal, reconciliation and resurrection of all things.
The implications of this view of the end is astounding. Our eschatology has everything to do with our engagement in the world.

If the end we have in mind is disembodied joy and bliss on some cloud, there’s no urgency to urgently and thoughtfully engage the world.
But if the end we have in mind is renewal and resurrection, we are invited to work for that which will be complete when Christ fully and finally reigns.

Therefore we anticipate the future life of God’s rule in the present moment of the world’s ruin.
