1/ Debate moderators, interviewers, and, it seems, Mayor Pete want to make it seem that Warren is being evasive when she won't talk about taxes in the discussion about healthcare, but there's a good reason she talks about costs, rather than taxes.
2/ The reason is because it's possible for taxes to go up considerably while overall budgetary costs go way down for most people.

Just look at other comparable countries, who pay higher taxes but get universal healthcare in return nyti.ms/2V8LXxK
3/ Consider this example: When you take healthcare costs and taxes together, a struggling American family can see 37 PERCENT of their paycheck disappear.

Meanwhile, in Finland, they'd pay 23 percent, and get universal healthcare.

In France, it's TWO PERCENT.

In the UK...ZERO.
4/ The whole "will you raise taxes" line of questioning is a trap that let's people muddy the waters about what universal healthcare would actually do to most people's bottom line.
5/ It's a shame that Warren seems to be the only politician, Democrat or Republican, who recognizes this, but she deserves credit for studiously avoiding falling in that trap
