It was indeed awesome yesterday to have these notable voices make their contribution in the conversation regarding this worrying subject: #RapeSexualAbuse. Discussion taken down to #SecondarySchools
#CatchThemYoung
#PreventionIsBetterThanCure #aStitcHinTimeSaves9
#HolyRosaryGSS
After the long emotional counselling session yesterday, and having carefully gone through the anonymous designed questionnaires given to the students to fill after the presentation/conversation, I would say, #ThisIsTheWayToGo! It was a huge #success. Here are my observations...
1) The strategy of focusing more on the preventive measures, the tips/principles one can maintain in life to avert such situations in the fist place. They need not fall victim b4 they learn...but to use their senses well/good reasoning to decipher when someone is up to something
as there are always the #TellTellSigns, #WarningBehaviours which ought to pass a msg across if they are of reason etc. "Also 'speaking up' in any event of attempt, etc. Going off the usual 'aftermath remedy' & Combat mechanism stuff of teaching paid off & was well appreciated.
2) From the data collated, d group of people that made d list of perpetrators are:
>their uncles (often during holidays)
>Seniors
>In-law )(aunties/Sister's husband). Lastly,
> Friends of Their brothers..
Note: Teachers didn't make d list. #HOROSCOFamilyq
she ran away from home because her own very father want to sleep with her.
Another was an orphan, who lives with her Aunty. The woman's husband won't let her be. She rold the woman abt it, but was called names instead, and d man was threaten her.
***told.
***threatening to harm her.

One other observation was the fact that in all the cases, because of fear as they said, non opened up to their parents or brothers.
Few confided in their elder sisters (at Uni), while some others,...their Aunt. We sure made them understand how important it is to always #SpeakUp.
Also letting their parents know about things happening around them (without hiding any...good or bad, even when they made mistakes) is the best. That they stand to learn more/better & be protected. In turn, their parents wld even trust & love them more when they confide in them.
