Today makes it five years since @WHO declared Nigeria #Ebola free.

The events of 5 years ago is a constant reminder on why we MUST build a resilient health security structure for #Nigeria.

Across the world, we increasingly recognise that the capacity to prevent, detect and respond to infectious diseases is best developed and sustained in national public health institutes.

This is why we continue to build a resilient workforce at @NCDCgov

About 3 years ago, we developed the NCDC strategy plan, articulating our vision to build a strong agency that can protect the health of all Nigerians

Since then, the #NCDCTeam has worked hard towards this. We’ve made rapid progress in some areas & continue to work towards others

This week, we are spending a few days to review our strategy plan and answer the following questions:

*How far have we gone?
*What has worked and what didn’t?
*What can we do in the next two years for a #StrongerNCDC?
*What do we need to get there?

This is no easy process, as we are building a ship while sailing.

We’re deeply grateful to @gatesfoundation for funding @InstituteGC to support @NCDCgov in developing and implementing a strategy plan

As I finalise my presentation to share with the #NCDCTeam this week, my goal is share a vision of a strong, resilient agency with skilled and committed staff who have the capacity to prevent, detect and respond to infectious disease outbreaks!

We owe this to the memory of Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh, Dr Amos Abaniwo, Nurse Justina Ejelonu and Nurse Aide Evelyn Uko- health workers we lost during the 2014 #Ebola outbreak.

We owe this to all Nigerians
