A 9-year-old boy charged with murder in the deaths of 5 of his family members appeared in court this morning. The judge read the indictment & asked if he understood. The boy shook his head no.

“What don’t you understand?”

“What I did,” the child replied.chicagotribune.com/news/breaking/…
Not just that - but words like "allegedly" "knowingly" and "arson."
Much has been made of the fact that this child cannot be sentenced to anything more than probation if he is found guilty.

BUT if he violates the terms of probation, once he is 10, he can be put in juvenile detention, and once he is 13, juvenile prison.
So this move by the prosecutor to charge a 9-year-old child is a pretty slick - and disgusting - one.
