During my first week on the ground in Iowa, a woman came up to me and said, “I’m a single mom, I work two jobs, and I have two kids at home. I won’t answer the phone when you call me and I won’t be at home when you canvass me. How is your campaign reaching me?”

(thread) 🗣
I told her I didn’t have an answer, but that I would find one. And low and behold, that’s when @bentoniavoices became an ambassador for @mamas4kamala— a grassroots movement of caregivers across this country who want to see @KamalaHarris as our next POTUS.
@mamas4kamala understands @KamalaHarris spent her career fighting for our vulnerable populations—specifically women and children.

So Ruby and I started to hold events, and we canvassed parks because we knew the only way to do this right, was to bring the campaign to the people.
After all, that’s what the foundation of this group was—a way to bring the campaign to caregivers in an accessible way—meeting people where they are. Four months of hard work later, and Ruby and I got a call saying @KamalaHarris wanted to meet this group of caregivers.
The best day I’ve ever had on this campaign happened today, when @KamalaHarris visited a town of ~5,000 people. She came to rural Benton County and met with caregivers.

A play date turned into a policy discussion, & my boss made me the absolute proudest I have ever been. 🥰
On the list of policies discussed today:

✅ 6 months paid family leave
✅ access to women’s maternity care
✅ increase in teacher salaries

I met Tina & Sophie at a 4th of July Parade. I heard a voice say, “Mom! That’s the woman I like!”

I gave Tina my number and we kept in touch. Tina is a 1st grade teacher and took time off to bring Sophie to see @KamalaHarris today, and said she knew it was important to Sophie.
Tina texted me after the event and said, “What a powerful experience today. Thanks for continuing to follow up with us so that we were able to attend the event today. We look forward to being more involved with her campaign.”

Tina AND Sophie committed to @KamalaHarris today. 💓
One of my precinct captains, Phil, came out to show @KamalaHarris his drawing of her as a superhero. Phil is a comic book artist for DC & Marvel based in North English!

Come see Phil’s artwork in our office in downtown Cedar Rapids! 🎨
Also, a #Mamas4Kamala event is never complete without a craft and snacks! 🍬🥨🍊
A *huge* shoutout to my partner-in-crime, my Iowa mom, & honestly just one of the best human being I’ve ever met—@bentoniavoices. Thank you doesn’t even begin to cover every emotion I have for you, Ruby!!! 💓
