Youtube made dramatic changes to the recommendation algorithm after a series of false stories claimed that Youtube was radicalizing people through a 'rabbit hole'

The story has now been debunked but the chaos it caused is still there

The problem with rabbit hole theory is that it assume humans dont choose the content they watch, they just mindlessly click videos

A recommendation is one of dozens that a person must choose to watch or choose to ignore.
Rabbit hole theory implies that humans have no critical thought and believe everything they see or that they don't question anything recommended

The reality is that the quality of content and ideas is what drives growth
It should have been obvious to NYT when their 'alt right' subject claims to have watched the IDW and then moved on to progressive youtubers

Instead they inverted the conclusion to support a narrative
