Sport England knows there are far fewer women participating in team sports than men at recreational level. SE data for 2017/18 shows:

People with the protected characteristic of 'gender reassignment' can be excluded from female sport for reasons of fairness and safety...

So including trans participants in recreational sport categories of the opposite sex will significantly affect both fairness and safety of female participants...
