No one's got a clue what these percents mean. I'll show you.

In 2015 the Tories got 36% and won a small majority.

But in 2017 they got 42% and failed to win a majority.
And Labour has been all over the place as well.

In 2010 Labour got 29% and got 258 seats.

In 2015 labour got 30% and got 232 seats

In 2017 Labour got 40% and 262 seats
In 2015 Labour got a higher vote share but a lower number of seats than in 2010

And in 2017 they got ten percentage points higher than they did in 2010, but only got 4 more seats

There are some things you know.

Labour will not win this election. And if the Tories win we will leave the European Union in the terms of Boris Johnson's agreement.
So what are the terms of Boris Johnson's agreement?
Complete rupture from Europe, but leaving Northern Ireland behind.
I know Englishmen find it hard enough to recognise Scotland as a separate nation, and Northern Ireland is another planet.

But these are part of your country, and in Johnson's deal they won't be any more.

And you have to keep reminding yourself of the story of Boris Johnson.

This is someone who brought down the last two governments of his own party, just because he wanted to be prime minister.
And now he wants to partition the country itself, just so he can be prime minister.

It's the greed of a child, and anyone should be ashamed who had anything to do with his upbringing, that he would destroy the country to satisfy his personal greed.
Not only is Boris Johnson unfit to be prime minister, he's unfit to be seen. It's like he was never brought up at all, but he has retained the lifelong habits of a baby. Greed and grab.

Right. It's going to be the longest day of parliamentary drama you have ever experienced. And it kicks off now.
The Speaker, John Bercow, is currently deciding what to do about the election for the new Speaker, given it is now ramming right up against the election debate.
Basically it comes down to: Do they hold the Speaker's election before or after the election? Bercow said he was standing down on October 31st. But some want him to hold out for after the election.

The two options for an election (the government's for 12 Dec, the LDs/SNP for 9 Dec) look almost indistinguishable in terms of timing, but are very different both in terms of process and crucially for treatment of the Withdrawal Agreement Bill (WAB).

The government is seeking approval for an early election under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act (FTPA). That requires approval by 2/3 of MPs - unlikely to be forthcoming. Even abstentions count against the motion.

Crucially government also wants parliament to pass the WAB by 6 Nov
Passing the WAB to such a timetable seems problematic - only a few days for a big complex bill.

Here's the Unit's analysis of time given to other Brexit bills. The most similar comparator had 36 days of scrutiny:

The Lib Dems have drawn up a bill that would allow Johnson to secure a December election with a simple majority of MPs. Crucially, the SNP will back it.

It also states that the plan is cancelled should the EU only offer a short Brexit extension, to safeguard against no deal.

Their plan would be that the bill, if adopted by Johnson, could be taken through parliament on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.

Parliament dissolves next Monday. Election December 9. Happy days.

The PM has confirmed it is his inetention to seek a dissolution of Parliament, via the Fixed Term Parliaments Act on Monday, for an election on December 12th.

Would be the first December election since 1923.
Expect Labour will insist on legal guarantees the govt cannot change the date of the election til after Jan 31st.
I imagine we can deduce from this that the French have told Downing St the extension will be to Jan 31st.

Feels as if the balance of power is beginning to shift away from the Remain Alliance and towards Boris. For the First time, he has a choice between two *good* options: either push through the WAB with a short delay, or pull it and push for a general election. If he gets the WAB
through, he can probably then fight a General Election in March of next year, hoping for a Brexit boost — “Having secured a good Brexit deal, I’m the right man to negotiate our future economic partnership with the EU.” If he pulls it, he can probably then fight a General Election
