Here is the case I am attempting to build:

We need to understand *patterns* of events such as copycat epidemics and climate-related forest fires as *emergent phenomena*. Conventional independent-event models aren't working.

(Note to @anelsona: Here is the logic behind my interest in your work. I believe that this new class of interventions can emerge only from an intellectual collaboration between two communities that typically are not communicating: social scientists and system thinkers.)
