I'm going to repost some more images from the Golden Calf Altar and murals close to it in Saudi Arabia. Critics have long claimed that there is no evidence that these images were carved by peoples who had come from Egypt. These are merely pastoral scenes of cows, they claimed.
First, note the following images from a painting in the tomb of Pharoah Seti I. These are clearly religious icons, not pastoral scenes of cows grazing. Note the person positioned under the cow and the others holding the tail:
Now, take note of the images from Jebel al-Lawz in Saudi Arabia. In one, a person is positioned under the cow. In a few others, a person is holding the cow's tail:
Further, the petroglyphs at Lawz also show similarities to Greek iconic images and idols portraying the practice of cow-jumping that accompanied the idolization of bulls that spread from Egypt to Greece. Note the people holding onto the bull's horns at Jebel al-Lawz:
It is also worth noting how well the murals align with the biblical testimony. Exodus 32:6 informs us that the idolaters engaged in sexual revelry. This is consistent with the images of the men who all have erections. (Not exactly a typical hunting scene.)
The painting on the underside of the Golden Calf altar also has a painting featuring a bull and a man above it with an erection:
Another passage in Exodus 32:19, says that when Moses came down, he saw the idolaters, "dancing." Another mural very close to the altar clearly features naked men dancing:
The idea that all this appears at the base of the only mountain that was believed by the Jews of the first century to be the real Mount Sinai should be taken very seriously by honest scholars. And this is only the tip of the iceberg of evidence.
