I’m an emergency physician and I generally cannot tell you if your needs are “emergent” or “nonemergent” wihtout evaluating you.

it's not just heartbreakingly backwards

it's a burden on others--and not just the potential for epidemic

when I see a patient with potential measles, it means we have to get them a special isolation room so they don't potentially infect others 1/x
I have to spend an absurd amount of time tracking down the proper protocols, making phone calls to our hospital's infection control group, the country dept of public health (not to mention figuring out with county DPH it is; based on where my ER is v where the patient lives?) 2/x
figure out which tests I'm supposed to order. and because we don't do these very much (yet) making sure I'm sending the right samples in the right test tubes to the right lab 3/x

The "activists" used a decommissioned, diesel-glugging fire engine and its hoses in an attempt to spray a message onto Treasury in Horse Guards Parade, but the hose broke and they were unable to control it before the liquid went everywhere.

A short thread on the Medevac laws.

Labor supports the Medevac laws for two reasons. One, it allows sick people on Manus and Nauru to get the health care they need. Two, it provides the Minister the power to determine who can come into the country.
Minister Dutton’s comments today misrepresented the second aspect of the legislation. He did not acknowledge that the Parliament explicitly ensured that the Minister had this power.
Since the passage of Medevac, the Morrison Government has brought dozens of people from Manus and Nauru to Australia for medical treatment, using both the Medevac legislation and outside the Medevac process.

Clinicians—have you ever responded to one of these?

Last week I left the hospital and boarded a flight for my vacation. I then responded to the mother of all in-flight emergencies…
2/ This was a flight with hundreds of people from Boston, so I estimated there would be at least 15 doctors. Turns out I was the only adult medicine doctor, BUT there was a cardiac nurse with me.
3/ The patient was middle-aged and experiencing crushing chest pain. We asked for the medical kit, took vital signs and performed an exam. By the way, you cannot hear sh*t through a stethoscope in the air. I could hear bilateral breath sounds, but that’s about it.

I myself have been sick for several years and I'm poor as well. I lost everything I owned due to medical bills. /2
@neeratanden @eshaLegal @ewarren And the ACA saved my life. I am a "Obamacare" success story if you will. At the same time I also know that millions aren't as lucky as I am. I advocate for a single payer system because I would allow people to get care who need it the most. /3
