Until yesterday when I watched some alleged lefties losing their minds over Harris’ proposal to fund after school programs, I had no idea there were so many adults who had no idea “aftercare” is an actual thing that a ton of working parents rely on.

I mean, how did some people not know that 1) schools get out way before the end of the typical workday and 2) most working parents prefer for their kids to be somewhere safer than playing a free range Oliver Twist out on the street?

Aftercare in my area costs $3k a year for one kid.

That’s <3 hours a day of care. For one kid.

Kids who attend do their homework, have a snack, and then play games and socialize.

Many kids whose parents work but can’t afford it go home to empty apartments.

Some of the backlash from the left (which I saw myself and was mentioned in the article) was from people who for some asshatted reason think aftercare is some kind of scheme to make parents work longer hours.

Uh, dipshits, the workday doesn’t end at 2 pm for most parents.

Harris’ proposal would truth benefit working class parents and, in particular, lift the boats most disadvantaged in early childhood.

The fact that some alleged progressives don’t get that says a whole lot about how little they actually know about real freaking life.

And if I seem surly about this, I am... for three reasons.

1) It’s been a long week and I’m tired AF.

2) The hasty reaction was driven at least in part by the fact that it was Kamala Harris’ proposal and not Warren’s or Bernie’s.

...and the third...
3) There too many sanctimonious alleged progressives who climb up on moral soapboxes about things they don’t remotely understand, have experience with or have solutions for...

Irritating as hell to listen to the peacocking about ordinary, real-life things by clueless scolds.
