1/ Nuremberg docs include PS-3051, the famous set of memos from Reinhard Heydrich to the police re events of 11/9-10, 1938 (Kristallnacht). Photo shows burning of synagogue in Hanover on that night. Memo in rest of this thread. 
2/ "Re: Measures against Jews tonight." Heydrich tells police chiefs to meet with polit leaders "to discuss organization of the demonstrations" and goes on to discuss his specific instructions.
3/ In next section: "Businesses and private apartments of Jews may be destroyed but not looted.... Particular care is to be taken that non-Jewish business should be protected from damage.... Foreigners, EVEN JEWS, are not to be molested."
4/ "The demonstrations which are going to take place should not be hindered by the police. . .in all synagogues and offices of J. communities, archives should be seized by the police to forestall destruction. . archives are to be turned over to competent SD offices."
5/ "As many Jews, especially rich ones, are to be arrested as can be accommodated in existing prisons. Upon arrest, the appropriate conc. camps should be contacted immediately in order to confine them as fast as possible."

7/ Heydrich was really worried about looting. He mentions it several times in these memos. "I explicitly point out that looting will be barred under all circumstances." Here he also instructs public prosecutors not to interrogate anyone "on matters of the Jewish actions."
8/ All of this was widely condemned in int'l press. Heydrich, of course, escaped justice by dying of sepsis in 1942 after an assassination attempt by Czech partisans. His successor, Kaltenbrunner, was in the dock at Nuremberg and was among those executed in 1946. ///
