I've seen a couple of tweets today about research access, but also the challenges of finding time to make use of such access, so I thought I'd do a short thread highlighting some of the content and resources included in @CharteredColl membership that you might not know about! 1/n
@CharteredColl Firstly, membership includes access to EBSCO's 'Education source', a huge database of education journals. You can access it from this page (member only); there are video guides to using it too. Watch out for updates making searching and sharing easier! my.chartered.college/research/ 2/n
@CharteredColl But for many teachers, access to original research isn't the priority. That's why we publish a practitioner-focused journal, Impact, bringing together a range of research and practice. Members can find all back issues at impact.chartered.college with some open access articles! 3/n
@CharteredColl We know how valuable teachers' time is, so we also provide access to shorter reads. Members can access key content from the Bristol Document Summary Service on our member platform, providing summaries of key research and policy, organised by theme: my.chartered.college/resources/univ… 4/n
@CharteredColl And we also have 'compact guides' for members on a range of topics, giving concise overviews of key ideas or principles to get you started - for example, this set of guides by @teacherhead and Sara Stafford looking at a range of pedagogical concepts! my.chartered.college/resources/comp… 5/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead Elsewhere on our member platform, MyCollege, there is a whole host of articles about research in practice, research digests and book reviews, all aimed at (and mostly written by!) teachers, plus videos and webinars for those of you who like multimedia. my.chartered.college 6/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead To make it easy to find resources around key themes that you're interested in, we regularly release new 'research highlights' that pull together content from MyCollege, Impact, EBSCO, Bristol Document Summary Service and more, around specific themes. my.chartered.college/resources/rese… 7/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead We also want to help save you time by collating resources from around the web. Our curated reading lists of articles, reports and blogs include a range of different views on key issues, like this open access one on building strong professional culture: my.chartered.college/2019/10/develo… 8/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead Of course, we know you want to share and collaborate with colleagues, too, so we create CPD packs aligned to Impact themes and articles, which you can download, adapt and use to support and deliver training in your school. impact.chartered.college/category/cpd-p… 9/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead For early career teachers, we also have 'The Profession', our annual publication aimed specifically at those starting out. Its articles cover everything from workload, to assessment, to behaviour management - including this article from @tombennett71 my.chartered.college/2019/05/resett… 10/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead @tombennett71 Being critical in how we approach, engage with and make use of research is important, too, though - not just accepting claims at face value. Our TWO sets of compact guides on engaging with research from @DrGaryJones and @debsnet can help here: my.chartered.college/resources/comp… 11/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead @tombennett71 @DrGaryJones @debsnet If you fancy something more in-depth, we have a FREE online course about engaging with research on @futurelearn, in partnership with @UoBTeach... Or if edtech's your thing, you can also find our courses on evidence-based uses of edtech on there too: futurelearn.com/partners/chart… 12/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead @tombennett71 @DrGaryJones @debsnet @FutureLearn @UoBTeach Many of our face-to-face events, and those run by our school-led networks and partners, are focused specifically on understanding and using research, like this one on research in lesson study, organised by our Lesson Study network led by @jpmynott: my.chartered.college/events/researc… 13/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead @tombennett71 @DrGaryJones @debsnet @FutureLearn @UoBTeach @jpmynott Going back to saving you time by curating things from elsewhere, my colleague @hannahtyreman has collected links to all of the content referenced in the Early Career Framework and more on Wakelet - as well as collections of things shared on Twitter wakelet.com/@CharteredColl 14/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead @tombennett71 @DrGaryJones @debsnet @FutureLearn @UoBTeach @jpmynott @hannahtyreman Skipping about a bit - back to research engagement. We were delighted to publish these FREE teacher and school research engagement self-assessment toolkits, developed by Louise Stoll, @TobyGreany, @SHUCDARE, @profstig, @ChrisBrown1475 and colleagues: chartered.college/evidence-engag… 15/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead @tombennett71 @DrGaryJones @debsnet @FutureLearn @UoBTeach @jpmynott @hannahtyreman @TobyGreany @SHUCDARE @profstig @ChrisBrown1475 Hopefully this curated reading list about building a research-engaged culture is helpful in finding more of our own and others' resources around research engagement, including challenges with the notion! my.chartered.college/2019/09/buildi… 16/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead @tombennett71 @DrGaryJones @debsnet @FutureLearn @UoBTeach @jpmynott @hannahtyreman @TobyGreany @SHUCDARE @profstig @ChrisBrown1475 Our new FREE publication on teacher CPD internationally also includes a whole host of articles on research engagement as a form of CPD, along with 30+ other articles and case studies from around the world: chartered.college/international-… 17/n
@CharteredColl @teacherhead @tombennett71 @DrGaryJones @debsnet @FutureLearn @UoBTeach @jpmynott @hannahtyreman @TobyGreany @SHUCDARE @profstig @ChrisBrown1475 So, we've been pretty busy developing things to support teachers. And that's before even mentioning our Chartered Teacher programme (chartered.college/chartered-teac…), partnering with @EdDevTrust on Accelerate, or our @EducEndowFoundn-funded ECF pilot. And there's much more to come! 18/18
I forgot! If our content’s not enough, our members also get access to discounts on education books from Sage, Crown House, Bloomsbury, Routledge and more; as well as full subscriptions to the Bristol Document Summary Service and @EvidenceInEdu’s Assessment Essentials programme.
