✨Great analysis of Unicode's emoji frequency data. We really want to emojify concepts people find useful. Once I understood how emojis are used to convey emotion, intent, body language, volume, etc. it totally changed my perspective on what to prioritize. wired.com/story/why-unic…
Since the last emoji release I've been consulting with a number of experts around gesture, linguistics & comics theory to craft a strategy for smiley emojification. One area we are exploring w @visual_linguist is established visual language found in comix

There is some good representation of these visual morphemes found in existing emoji. Not surprising considering emoji's roots.

Coercion through cuteness
Dizziness
Loudly crying
Face With Steam From Nose
There are quite a few well visually established ways of communicating emotions that are not emojified and are worth exploring! To name a few ...

Holding back tears
Relief
Fogginess
Motion
Update! A few of these smiley emoji have moved forward to the UTC. First up, "breath face" aka "sigh". This is an emoji Samsung users previously had but was sadly lost in years past 🔗 unicode.org/L2/L2020/20066…
Next is FACE HOLDING BACK TEARS. A lot of Samsung's designs were fantastic but were discarded as everyone tried to converge in the darkness. This time around I'm optimistic we'll be holding back prideful tears together when it rolls out. unicode.org/L2/L2020/20064…
