A White South Carolina restaurant owner who enslaved an intellectually disabled Black man from the age of 12 has been sentenced to 10 years prison.

(The federal case focused on the period beginning 2009, which @washingtonpost incorrectly states is the year Edwards became manager of the restaurant. In fact the abuse began when Chris Smith was just 12 and Edwards became manager when Smith was 17.)
@washingtonpost PS. Not only is the restaurant still open, but it is still owned by the Edwards' family, who Mr. Smith says knew exactly what was going on.
