So it's interesting that the head of @NYPDTransit Chief Edward Delatorre, who has come down so hard on people who sell churros and candy in the subway, was just investigated by internal affairs for a number of shady mob-involved real estate dealings. Yep.

@NYPDTransit It's just interesting what sort of "crime" @NYCMayor prioritizes. This is the character of person who you put in charge of the policing the transit system. Who then prioritizes arresting people selling churros and candy.

In March 2018, a cop driving at twice the speed limit crashed into an SUV killing a baby. Police charged him AND the baby's mother with negligent homicide, because they said she hadn't strapped her baby into her car seat properly. Now he won't face charges.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/11…
The cop's name is Christopher Manuel and he is still an officer with the Baton Rouge PD.

He is not even being charged with SPEEDING even tho he was driving 100 mph in a 50 mph zone.
The DA said they didn't initially charge him with speeding because that would have interfered with the prosecution of the negligent homicide charge. Not at all clear how.

I think so many people are convinced you have to carry ID because police do stop and ask young Black and Brown people for ID all the time and, if they don't show it, they do arrest them.

But that's illegal harassment. And the arrest charge will have nothing to do with ID.
Because there is no law on the books that requires you to carry ID. And the police are so used to doing this, they even trip up themselves - which is how they ended up tweeting this.
And why I wrote my initial thread.

It's the same way police stop and search young Black and Brown people for no reason and then arrest them and come up with a reason for the stop.

NYPD says the young man selling candy on the subway was arrested because he refused to "provide identification."

Nowhere in the US are you required to carry ID. In some states, including NY, in certain circumstances, police can ask you your name & other identifying information.
In New York, the police always have the right to ask for your name and identifying information if they are placing you under arrest.

A cop has discretion to issue a ticket or place you under arrest when they intend to charge you with a misdemeanor or an infraction/violation.
How do you know if you are under arrest? Contrary to what you see on TV, it has nothing to do with being "read your rights" or Miranda warnings.

It's a bit more complicated than this, but essentially it comes down to when the police take "custody" of you.

ok, i feel like it's late enough to come out and say this: i'm deeply suspicious of the gravel teens. i think what they're doing is cool and all, but i can't help but feel like they were motivated in large part by a desire to be noticed by the chapo guys
moreover, do they actually think getting mike gravel on the debate stage is a good idea? i heard the interview with him on @PodDamnAmerica and the guy is a kook! he really can't communicate his ideas very clearly, and some of his thoughts are downright strange
the stage is already going to be crowded enough as it is, and the idea that @MikeGravel is going to pull anyone to the left on foreign policy is just a little delusional. i'm glad the twitter account exists because they post some cool stuff, but let's be real here

To start, raising your income is far more important than cutting your spending when growing your wealth. Spending definitely matters, but without sufficient income it is far too difficult to succeed.
\2 Just look at the lowest 20% of income earners. They spend MORE than what they earn for BASIC NECESSITIES. While there are low-income individuals that become millionaires through very low spending, they are the exception, not the rule.
\3 Comparing them to the highest 20% of income earners, you can see how the highest 20% have a lot more room to save. This is why most millionaires are white collar professionals or business owners of some sort. They have high incomes and they don’t overspend.
