In December 2015, the FBI informed @jack that the Saudis recruited Twitter employees to spy on Twitter users for the benefit of MBS.

Six months later, @jack had a personal meeting with MBS. Twitter continued their policy towards Saudi Arabia just the same.
Twitter was the Arab public sphere in 2014.

Today Twitter is, instead, the primary propaganda weapon of the Saudi government.

The Saudi regime has arrested and tortured to death people for tweeting.

Twitter continues business as usual with Saudi Arabia.
This is rotten and the rot comes all the way from the top. On both sides.

Five years ago I was stuck in an airport for a month just after being released from prison and expelled from my former country. As a "stateless" Palestinian there was nowhere to send me to, so I lived in an airport. I am still nervous around airports.
...Which is why stunts like this get to me. Getting pulled away from a line of customers and talked down to. Talk about screwed up business practices piled on top of PTSD triggers.

Reminder that sectarianism has nothing to do with theology and very little with actual religion. Sectarianism is a form of tribalism. We can't have literal racism when everyone is mixed, so we got this. Sectarianism is our version of racism and we should analyze it as such.
Also a reminder that racism is not about literal (biological) races, because they don't exist. Racism is also more than mere bigotry. Racism is about institutional inequality and exclusion of groups of human beings based upon bullshit categories.
(Now watch some heads explode when I say that we should seek insights from critical race theory when analyzing sectarianism in the Muslim world, lol)

After criminalizing feminism, spreading the news about that across their mediums, and even commissioning & publishing a video about the dangers of feminism... MBS backtracks. Fine, if women's rights are so important, why are Saudi Arabia's top women's rights activists in prison?
If feminism is really not a crime in Saudi Arabia, why are Saudi Arabia's top feminists in prison, having endured sexual harassment, torture by electric shock, beatings, psychological torture, and public shaming?

Earlier this week, the US gov't filed a complaint in a District Court in California alleging that two former Twitter employees had used their roles to spy for Saudi Arabia
According to that complaint, Twitter put an engineer on administrative leave after discovering he had been accessing data from user accounts.

That was December 2015.
