This @DailyCaller column by Federalist Society founder Stephen Calabresi is strangely and gobsmackingly bad. Let me count the ways. A thread. dailycaller.com/2019/11/08/cal…
Calabresi says House Dems are violating Mr. Trump's 6th amendment rights by denying him a speedy and public trial & refusing to let him confront the witnesses against him. But, per the constitution, those rights apply only in "criminal prosecutions"—not in impeachment inquiries.
Not to mention that if Trump is impeached in the House, the Senate removal trial would be public and just as speedy as Mitch McConnell wants it to be, with Trump or his lawyers present to confront witnesses. I wrote on that here economist.com/united-states/…
But Calabresi's piece is terrible in another way: its prose. There's a missing word in the very first sentence (should be "corruption investigation").
There are missing apostrophes...
...and other oddities
And full paragraphs of nonsense capped by non sequiturs
Throw in an acknowledgement (!) that Trump abused his power...
...and this completely drunk sentence (with a mistakenly lower-case "h" on "house") suggesting BOTH that Dems should be "expelled" now—impeached and removed from office, I presume?—AND "punished" next year by voters.
The coup de grace is something else 🙃
Overall, the piece reads like the first draft of an op-ed by a MAGA middle-schooler who was inspired by Jacob Wohl's erstwhile Twitter account, not the chairman and co-founder of @FedSoc.
Which makes one wonder: *did* Calabresi write this? Hard to imagine he did. But is it more disturbing if he (a) wrote it or (b) didn't write it and signed his name to it? And why did the @DailyCaller editors turn a blind eye to its many errors & embarrassments? /END
