Protesting is a public act, and photographing public events and tracking down contact info are basic functions of reporting, so I have a hard time seeing how an apology is merited.
It’s not just fundamental to reporting. Protests need news coverage and photographs to reach new audiences and influence decision makers. I can’t see how the public conduct of protests can possibly be folded into a sphere of privacy.
