Okay, Spider-man and His Amazing Friends is kind of more bonkers than I remembered. Standards & Practices in 1983 apparently allowed much more explicit references to death and dying than the later 80s, and the Chameleon tried to murder Namor with a swimming pool full of alcohol.
It's also interesting the extent to which it unapologetically assumes its audience is familiar with the wide Marvel comics universe (or young to roll with it), freely referencing and including concepts and characters without explanation or introduction.
Electro attempting to torture Flash Thompson to death in a Pong machine for liking video games is probably supposed to be a lesson about his unhealthy obsession but it just comes off like Electro is a video game character who is mad at Flash for attacking his kind.
...also this episode establishes they still live next door to the Watsons. I have questions.
Also interesting that their catch-phrase is "Spider-Friends... go for it!" Kind of makes it sound like they give themselves a good fifty-fifty chance of success.
If I were an ice mutant trapped in a video game with a timer counting down my doom, I would simply freeze the timer.
