I’m gonna do a thread with what makes both Kara and Lena two amazing and relatable characters for different reasons, that explains why both of them have their reasons in this story.
Enjoy and give me your thoughts if you want:
Starting with Lena, as we saw on 506 Lena didn’t have so many friends, she lost her mother (this still affects her now), she found in Mercy a sisterly figure and she just decided to betray her and was more addicted to power, just like her brother. First time she was betrayed-
-by someone she really cared about and someone who she really looked up to. Then she met Andrea in her teen years. Andrea was the first person she really felt an instant connection with, she could understand Lena unlike anyone else, she helped her becoming who she is now-
-the strong and confident woman who can conquer whatever she wants, whenever she wants it. Andrea became her best friend, her ‘partner in crime’, the person she could always count on when she needed it and it was the same for Andrea with her. They created this strong bond, until-
-the events we saw on 506, where Andrea decided to lie to her (for valuable reasons in her PoV). The moment she saw Andrea with the Medallion she was searching SO much to reconnect with her mother, it was so important for her, and seeing it on Andrea, like that where everyone-
-could see it...it was just TOO much for Lena to process. She felt betrayed and she just couldn’t stand there listening to any of Andrea’s reasons back then and she decided to leave and never talk to her again. She felt betrayed be the person she cared the most and she saw this-
-person put her needs before Lena’s, who told her she wouldn’t have betrayed her, ever. When she feels betrayed she stings, like a real scorpion, and she hurt you, even if she isn’t really like that.
After this betrayal she couldn’t stay in that city anymore. Her brother ruined-
-her life and every of her attempts of building a new life, away from the weight of the Luthor name. She wanted to do some good, despite she was just being betrayed, again, by her best friend. She saw Supergirl on the news and something happened in her head. She saw in this-
-girl her hope. She thought that, going to National City and “sharing her home with a Kryptonian” would’ve finally helped her redeem her family name and would’ve helped the World being a better place. United. So she just decided to abandon everything she was working with Jack-
-their project for curing cancer (omg that was huge) and just go. She’s like this, when she wants something she takes it. And she just leaves Jack without even blinking. Her will of doing some good with a girl she saw on the news, being there saving people with her was more-
-important than anything else. Even her own personal life. She was already fond of Supergirl as a hero, she really looked up to her.
So, when she arrived to NC the first thing people did was judging her (Clark was the first). The only one really trying to understand her more-
-was, in fact, Kara. She saw this girl standing next to Clark Kent who was doing all the assumptions but she never saw her MAKING assumptions about her. Instead, she saw this girl getting her instantly. Like they had this thing in common about making a name-
-outside their own family and you can see by the look in both of their faces that that moment was very important for the both of them. For different reasons.
Kara helped her and really cared about making everyone sure they should’ve seen Lena for her actions, not her brother’s-
-that was very important for Lena. And she thought it would’ve been good to talk to Kara again in the future (to Kara, she couldn’t care less about Clark who apologized to her and admitted he was wrong about her. Just saying).
Time goes on and a lot happens in her life in NC-
-people keeps judging her for whatever happens in the city and she still sees one only person rooting for her. Always: Kara. She wants to keep a business relationship with her cause of Andrea, but seeing how much Kara really tries to be her friend...well, after one Kara’s look-
-she just couldn’t not be her friend. This girl was really trying to get her no matter what and she opened a little space in her heart, again. She must’ve thought ‘oh, come on Lena, what could go wrong with her? Don’t be a bitch she’s being nice to you’ and she let Kara into her-
-life. Everything is going on with her life, she has found in Kara a friend. A friend like no one she’s ever had before. Even a family. Someone who said to her she was gonna fight for her and always be there for her and she started to count on Kara more and more. And at the same-
-everything seemed to be going very good with Supergirl as well.
With time passing, her bond with Kara was over the top, while the one with Supergirl wasn’t always so good, but they always found their way to get along again. Till that time when Supergirl asked her boyfriend-
-to betray her. Something she couldn’t process. She looked up to Supergirl, she was her mentor, her friend, her idol. And she gave Kara THAT speech in the elevator about how you don’t have to ‘make someone your idol, they’ll always lead you to disappointment’.
She became cold-
-but even after that, she still cared about her (people underestimate me, but I care. I REALLY DO). They worked their problems out and worked together to fight Lex and other menaces. She started to trust her again, till her brother gave her that news. That not only her best-
-friend, her whole world, has been lying to her for 3 years now, but every friend she let her in was doing the same. That broke her completely. That was the ultimate betrayal for her.She just felt like a fool and not just that. She felt like Kara didn’t trust her enough with that-
-so she decided to do what she does the best when she’s hurt. She stings, AGAIN. She put all her attention to her work and started to work on Hope to try and ‘fix humanity’. Make them stop hurting each other. In her PoV she’s doing a ‘favor’ to mankind. She prefers working late-
-every night instead of speaking with her friend and try to understand WHY she did what she did. And this is ruining her same humanity piece by piece. She’s allowing her will of fixing mankind being all she thinks about during the day. What she’s doing is wrong and I think she-
-just need to sit with Kara and just TALK. About what she feels. Even if it would mean put her feelings out there again for Kara. I think when she’ll see Kara fighting with tooth and nails for her she’ll understand how much she really cares about her and she’ll come back to us.
Now, talking about Kara’s PoV.
Kara has a very different story. Being someone from another planet has always been something she felt like a ‘curse’. The only person she felt could understand her and made her feel like she was at home is her sister Alex. She could be able to share-
-her secret with her friends,Winn and James are the ones she cares the most at first,Winn was the very first she told her secret about, and then having James who knew thanks to Clark makes her life so much easier. Her life went on as a simple assistant of Cat Grant and Supergirl-
-she thought her life was ok, but it’s just when she met Lena that her life changed forever. She felt an immediate connection to that girl that she was trying to make a name out of her family, just like she was trying to do with herself, trying to be judged by her actions, not-
-by Clark’s actions. She felt like she had to try and see the truth about that story about Lena Luthor while her cousin was keeping assuming she was guilty cause she was ‘a Luthor’. She was right about that story and when Lena looked at her and asked her about being a reporter-
-that way, she caught her off-guard. That changed everything inside of her. For the first time she found someone who saw her potential for something. Lena said that and she immediately felt like she HAD to be a reporter. She never would’ve thought of that, even if Cat knew that-
-from the first time she saw Kara. (I found that moment very important for Kara and the fact that was Lena the one who made her understand that,well..I’m not gonna say anything). After that, she found any excuse to go and see Lena, for work and even not just that (as we saw on-
-506 where, after just one month she invited Lena to game nights, which we know very well how important they are to her cause she wanted a real opponent for her and her sister. This thing made me think A LOT. Like how could Kara know if Lena was a good opponent? She kner her for-
-a month, they never even talk about Lena’s chess skills so...I found it really interesting how they wanted to show us moments like those to us). When she tried to connect more with Lena she just cut her off and told her she just wanted to have a business relationship with her-
-and she felt...bad. You can see how she WANTED Lena to be her friend. Kara’s hurt face tells us a lot about how much she wanted her to accept her invitation (again, not gonna say anything here). She decided to give Lena space as she requested, but when she saw her at that Café-
-she just couldn’t not try to connect with her again. She needed to try again and convince her(with some very cute excuse to be honest)and she played her cards being nice and then saying Lena she would’ve eaten all those food alone and than she said goodbye to her but if you see-
-the way she’s going away you’ll smile cause for a person who’s the fastest on Earth it definitely took her a lot of time to go (😂). You can see how much she hoped for Lena to change her mind and do what Lena actually did. Very. Smart.
After that moment Lena became one of the-
-most important friends for her. She felt the immense need to protect her and be supportive.Lena just needed a friend after all. Someone who trusted her no matter her family name, cause she was different. And Kara felt SHE had to be that person. She wanted to be that person for her-
-both as Kara Danvers and as Supergirl. She loved every moment working together with her, being friend with her. Her bond with Lena grew more and more every year and, even if as Supergirl they had their misunderstandings, her love for Lena always made her understand that sometimes-
-even her could be wrong about things. That not everything Lena did was to hurt her or were being done thinking about her specifically (just see Kara’s face if you forget it cause it says VERY much about how that hurt her). She thought that, since she apologized to Lena, they-
-were good again. But when Lena told her THE speech in the elevator all her world just fell apart. She thought she lost her forever. But than she remembered she didn’t know about her being Supergirl so she thought ‘well, she’s angry with me,but with Supergirl, so if I could just-
-be Kara she won’t hate me and everything will be ok. I just have to be just Kara’. And that’s what she did. She decided she preferred lying to the person she cares about the most so she could still keep her as a friend. She couldn’t bare with the thought of losing her for being-
-one of the many who didn’t trust her enough.
Things went on and the both of them were better, even as Supergirl, they put their problems aside to work together and for Kara everything was going great. She didn’t even realize something was off with Lena. After everything Lex put-
-Lena through she couldn’t bare the weight of her secret anymore. A part of her wanted to tell her more than anything but the other part, the strongest one, kept telling her she didn’t. She was completely afraid of her reaction to that reveal. She was so afraid of losing her-
-so she kept pretending and time kept going on. Till that Pulitzer night, when seeing Lena like that praising her being like the best person in the world made her collapse. She just couldn’t keep anything to herself anymore. She HAD to tell her. And she did. She admitted for the-
-the first time, out loud, that she lied to her cause she was afraid of losing her, not cause she was trying to protect her (much to think about). And when she saw Lena’s reaction and her going away without saying a word she thought she lost her forever. So, for her, Lena’s speech-
-on that stage meant THE WORLD. She thought Lena totally accepted her and forgave her for not telling her her secret. That hug on stage meant a lot to Kara. You can see it from the way she hugs her and from her face while she’s doing it.
From that moment on, she felt finally-
-free for the first time. Like she could do ANYTHING (VERY MUCH to think about). She’s so happy about Lena knowing that she just want her to know everything now, she gave her a watch to call her whenever she needs and she felt like everything was ok.
She’s so happy for this she-
-even felt the need to do things perfectly with Lena, she wanted their "first lunch date" together (with Lena knowing about her secret now) to be just...PERFECT (like, who does that? Not gonna say anything as always). So, when she sees Lena behaving like nothing happened between-
-them and them finally working together like old times everything felt on the right place for Kara. She wants Lena to be involved in everything she does now. She wants her involved in HER LIFE more. She invited her to join the Superfriends club (in the cutest way possible!) and-
-everything is perfect for her. She cares about her so much she can't see how much she's hurting. She's gonna fight SO HARD for her, she can't allow herself to lose her and she's gonna feel responsible (understandable, even if she had her reasons and WHAT reasons 👀).
