CDC: Cigarette smoking among U.S. adults has reached an all-time low of 13.7% in 2018 — a decline of abt two-thirds in 50 years since the first Surgeon General’s report warned of the health consequences of smoking. (34.2 million adults still smoking-with higher % in these groups)
Sad to see the groups that still have higher % of smoking cigarettes: poor, disabled, uninsured and without a high school degree, among other groups. Tobacco companies know this too.
Another tidbit from CDC: "Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable disease, disability, and death in the U.S. Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure."
480,000 deaths per year. Think about that.
