Naomi Campbell by Campbell Addy. It’s the first time in her 33 year career a black photographer has shot her for a mainstream publication. Take a moment with that. Thousands of shoots and not once was a black photographer hired. #newblackvanguard 
What’s even crazier is I discovered this fact in my research for The New Black Vanguard and tried to set up a shoot. I literally pitched a fashion house the idea that Campbell Addy shoot Naomi Campbell and we include the images in the book! 😭
the only other time I know of that a black photographer has shot her for a magazine is Jamel Shabazz for Essence and that was last year.
ALSO FUN FACT: You know that issue of Vogue Italia, “the black issue” from 2008, that sold out in minutes, well not one black photographer shot any of those images. Every black model was shot by a white photographer.
the majority of the images we see, that shape our ideas of beauty, representation, gender and desire are made by white photographers. It’s another way that white supremacy is inscribed on the culture.
