The next time all the reform yutzes talk about "getting kids away from failing schools", remember that it's the lawsuits that *prevent* schools from protecting non-sped kids from out of control sped kids that do a lot to create "failing schools", particularly at ES level.
I mean, this is basically what Pondiscio's book describes SA doing to kids with far fewer problems, and lots of folks said whoooohooo go Success Academy!
What we used to do was create separate schools for severely disabled kids. The parents sued. Hence mainstreaming.

Here's a terrible thing: no matter what you do, severely disabled kids will have tough lives in institutional settings.
So you get responses like this from conservatives who--as a rule--support choice. Why do parents want choice? In no small part to get away from the very kids that he's criticizing public schools for mistreating.

And then they come back with nonsense like this. Because almost all reformers use these stories to PUSH choice.

"See, parents of disabled kids are stuck in this horror! But choice would allow parents of disabled kids to choose schools where their kids are treated like kings."

Except there will only be 8 openings, and they'll take funding away from the schools that handle the rest.
And even more absurdly, again, is the fact that they are simultaneously encouraging the parents of non-sped kids to run away from these idiotic policies, while telling parents of sped kids that choice can save them.

Loony hypocrites.
Here's another conservative who writes for a publication that routinely shits all over public schools and mocks "mainstreaming" and implies that schools have abandoned tracking for ideological reasons.
