THREAD: 1/10 Dispatches has found that secret meetings have taken place between senior civil servants and representatives of US pharmaceutical firms where the price the NHS pays for its drugs has been discussed.
2/10 A source with knowledge of the trade talks told Dispatches that British trade negotiators have already held six official meetings with their US counterparts to talk about what might be in any trade deal.

Growing up poor/not having enough to eat is a real thing. That simple fact is ignored in the tax debate.

1 in 5 US children are food insecure, among the lowest in the developed world.

Is it a level playing field when 20% children regularly go hungry?
One thing to remember when people claim society is not broken is that is just their experience.

Hunger is real. Wealth inequality is real.

There is a way up and out in America in ways that are not possible elsewhere, but that doesn’t mean the system is done getting better.

A rich kid started a fight with me. I hit back.

His friend jumped out from behind a car and sucker punched me.

Back of my head was heard slamming into parking lot.

Prosecutor was friends with kids dad. Rich kids get away with anything.
Ambulance took me to the hospital. $1,100 MRI bill.

My parents asked states attorney to make the guy who was SEEN by multiple eye witnesses hitting me with brass knuckles pay the bill.

The prosecutor was friends with them. “You don’t have a case.”

He later became a judge.

When I told my story about my husband's job moving to Canada, so we had to sell the house we'd worked so many years to build & had my home teaching studio in it? Well, I didn't say much about that. I let you all assume it was an art studio, & I did teach art, but, primary (next)
2) it was my dance studio. I taught dance, theater, art, and German classes thru my private program called Ladybug Arts. My husband built handcrafted dance barres, and stained them high gloss. Golden, beautiful. My little dancers so cute and pretty all lined up at the barre...
3) We installed full length mirrors along the whole long side of the wall, and a glass door on the other side, so parents could watch the class. He build benches, beautiful benches, for students or parents to sit on around the entire perimeter of the room. He laid the flooring...

Competence is knowing what to do in a situation and how to do it. It is not the same as excellence.
Excellence is dependent on other people, like judges, examiners, teachers, assessors, inspectors, auditors. But we can't control these people and whether they think we're excellent or not.
