I want to highly recommend “A Planet to Win” by @KateAronoff, @alybatt, @aldatweets, & @triofranco.

It’s a quick, approachable read that will expand your concept of what we can collectively achieve and how it would make life so much better.

Thread of some of my favorite parts:
Obama could have done so much more. The proposals were there, and he wouldn’t fight for them.

When Fox targeted Solyndra, no one noted how Tesla got billions from the same program.

(“A Planet to Win,” @VersoBooks)
When people say the rapid timelines for a Green New Deal aren’t possible, think back to the New Deal.

They build so much during that period!

(“A Planet to Win,” @VersoBooks)
The jobs guarantee under a Green New Deal would not only allow us to reduce the workweek and make massive investments in the arts, but it could also provide more power and autonomy to indigenous communities.

(“A Planet to Win,” @VersoBooks)
However, we also need to be aware of who benefits from various actions.

Going off-grid is not the positive thing some people try to make it seem, and just because a community is dense doesn’t mean it always has a low environmental footprint.

(“A Planet to Win,” @VersoBooks)
“The boundaries of the nation-state can’t be the boundaries of the political imaginary.”

“Our core premise is that nodes of the vast supply chains of the renewable transition are potential sites of solidarity across borders.”

(“A Planet to Win,” @VersoBooks)
🔥👏🏻 “Should the same communities exploited by 500 years of capitalist and colonial violence be asked to bear the brunt of the clean energy transition just to make the shift a tiny bit easier for affluent suburbanites who love their SUVs?”

(“A Planet to Win,” @VersoBooks)
There’s even a bit of projecting what a GND future could look like, even in the short-term, and it makes you emotional, imagining such a better way of living from the vantage point of our crushing capitalist dystopia.

Such thinking is essential.

(“A Planet to Win,” @VersoBooks)
“Every tiny tick upward in global temperatures translates to tens of thousands of lives lost, and will make the task of building a good workd for all that much harder.”

‼️ “The less carbon we emit, the fewer people die.” ‼️
“A Planet to Win” is currently 50% off at @VersoBooks. It’s well worth your time (and money): versobooks.com/books/3107-a-p…
And just realized I messed up @triofrancos handle in the first tweet. My bad, but now you can easily find her great work on the resource angle of this important discussion.
