For all those out there wanting to get more involved with fixing the insane situation that is our current federal government, please consider volunteering for local races! THREAD 1/9 
Don’t get me wrong, the presidency is vitally important to flip and definitely something we should not ignore! And it’s every bit as important to keep a majority in the House and win back the Senate, but in the rush to support those races, many folks forget the local ones... 2/9
State legislatures, party committees, state senate, hell, sanitary districts and school boards...all of these races and more will have a greater impact on your life than your US Senator likely will! 3/9
Since the Virginia State Legislatures flipped this year, we’re FINALLY discussing ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment, something political experts declared dead in the 1980’s! 4/9
Most importantly, since we have an upcoming census year, getting strong progressive politicians on a local level is absolutely vital to the fight against gerrymandering! 5/9
Local candidates often have the most trouble getting volunteers involved...and those races can be so easily and cheaply swung by special interests who can invest $20,000 in a small local race to get politicians to vote their way. 6/9
Wealthy donors and corporations know this and through targeted local efforts have killed everything from state- and city-sponsored broadband, to expanded public transit, and more. 7/9
So for those of you who care about equality in our government, who desperately want to see real change, please volunteer for and donate to local candidates that share your values! 8/9
