Role Of State Governors/Government In Nigeria

1. Many Nigerians aren't aware that some state governors are yet to inaugurate their cabinets. Some of those who were up in arms that PMB had not appointed ministers have gone silent now their state governors haven't
2. appointed commissioners. Many Nigerians aren't aware that most things they complain about aren't under the purview of the FGN while some are both responsibilities of state & federal government.
A.
Basic Amenities: People lament about bad roads while pointing fingers at Abuja
3. I agree that most of our highways are in a bad shape but many do not know that there are more 'state roads' than 'federal highways'. Many do not know that the road from bank road Owerri to relief market falls under the states responsibility. My state stopped having pipe borne
4. water over 10 years ago, but I see Somto in owerri tweeting why PMB hasn't done anything about portable drinking water for the people. Amenities like electricity are the sole responsibility of the FGN but responsible state governors can also complement efforts by embarking
5. on rural electrification projects; extra poles, transformers, cables etc will go a long way in helping the FGN & masses.
B.
Security: This is the primary responsibility of federal & state. We know central command of military, police, DSS, NSDC are all federal but they all
6. state commands who have the state governors as their chief security officer. Both federal & state government are expected to use tax payers monies, allocations to equip law enforcement agencies.Every state governor is allocated security votes which they alone have oversight
7. of. Governors are expected to use such funds to buy & donate state of the art equipment to assist law enforcement agencies.
C.
Education: Many Nigerians do not know that basic education; primary, secondary schools falls mainly within the jurisdiction of state governments.
8. That state governments along side federal should provide, maintain & upgrade technical schools & tertiary institutions like colleges of education, polytechnics & universities. Creating & maintaining educational facilities is another means of job creation.
9.
D.
Health Care:
Almost everyone on twitter knows the minister of health but many do not know their state commissioners for health . Many do not know it is the responsibility of state governments to provide basic/cheap health care facilities for their people.
10.
E.
Ease of doing business: It is not the sole responsibility of the FGN to create enabling environment for businesses. Many of us forget that businesses are domiciled in states where they abide by state laws including paying state taxes/levies. State governments should
11. create easy 'business playing fields' that will encourage businesses to grow. Look at the tech industry in Lagos, many of them are getting funding from overseas investors meanwhile they are creating employment opportunities within the state. Lagos state & other states who
12. have such businesses running should be giving them loans, tax exemptions/reductions etc..When businesses thrive, jobs are created.

My people, while we drag Abuja/FGN with one hand, let us also use the other hand to drag our state governors. If Abuja does 50% of their
13. responsiblities & states do 50% of theirs, Nigeria will be better.

I know some dimwits will still come here to say I am defending FGN from doing their job. No worry, una go dey alright las las.
