You can't rely on father-> son and mom-> daughter transmissions of culture

Books exist precisely to remove this intermediation. You access "culture" directly
I have met many extremely erudite H-handles on twitter, who have privately claimed that their parents knew next to zilch, and that they have excelled them through study
In my own case, my parents barely knew the difference between brAhmaNas and samhitas.

Though I am not a lot better, I am definitely better than them in my awareness of traditional texts and ideas
The fine Sri-Vaishnava upanyAskAr Dushyant Sridhar claimed in some interview that his parents were hardly the vaIdIka type, and were fairly secularized

But he turned out differently. As he chose to pursue his interest passionately
