There’s a refugee kid who’s been in ORR custody for almost a year. He’s got friends here—lawyer and legal worker types. No family in the US who can take him. So we found him a foster family who’ll welcome & care for him at their expense instead of taxpayers’.

If we don’t get him out of ORR custody by early next year, ORR will hold him until he’s 18 and allow ICE to arrest him. He’ll have aged out of the key form of relief he qualifies for.
This isn’t about his best interests. It’s about trapping kids into less protective systems.

At that point, without the help of a great lawyer (which the government is under no legal obligation to provide), he’s statistically likely to be deported.
