The @HouseGOP argues that @realDonaldTrump cared so deeply about corruption that he held up military aid in 2019.

BUT:

Trump DID release military aid in 2017 & 2018 when there was real corruption under the previous Ukrainian President.
The @HouseGOP argues that @RealDonaldTrump cared so deeply about  Ukraine that he released military aid in 2017 & 2018.

BUT:

Trump did NOT release aid in 2019 when Ukraine had a brand new anti-corruption President AND @DeptofDefense had already approved release of the aid.
Why?

Because now — in 2019 — Joe Biden was running for president and Trump wanted Zelensky to announce an investigation that would hurt Biden.

I asked Republicans if even one of them will answer whether it’s an abuse of power for any president to condition official actions on their own personal, political gain.

My Republican colleagues’ only answer has been to say that this didn’t happen.

BUT:

Not a single one answered the question if this behavior — by any President — is OK.

@realDonaldTrump admitted to his wrongdoing and corrupt intent on national television.

@realDonaldTrump His obstruction of Congress and blanket directive to deny us even a single witness, a single document, is unprecedented. Yet, in spite of that obstruction, multiple patriots came forward and provided damning, corroborating testimony.
@realDonaldTrump Understand the seriousness of what this means: @RealDonaldTrump has solicited foreign interference before. He is doing it now. He will do it again.

The smoking gun is already re-loaded and whether or not it gets fired—that is up to us.

Impeachment is a rarely used remedy, designed to guard against the most egregious abuses of power.

@realDonaldTrump’s abuse of power and obstruction of Congress warrants its use.
I did not come to Congress to impeach the President of the United States, but @realDonaldTrump—and the facts—leave us no choice. President Trump endangered the sanctity of our elections by inviting foreign interference in our most sacred democratic institution.
He betrayed our national security, violated the sacred trust of the American people, and threatened the very future of our democracy.

At every turn, he has obstructed the House—the people’s representatives—from doing our job and serving as a check against the Executive Branch.

Remember, this squares with the assessment of Trump's own Pentagon. As a DoD official testified last month, top-level national security officials "expressed unanimous support for resuming the funding," citing Ukraine's *progress fighting corruption.*
The same official confirmed that two months before Trump's call with Zelensky and before the freeze was put in place, the Pentagon had determined that Ukraine had met the requirements for combatting the very corruption that Trump claimed he was concerned about.
